The Palms Piano Project showcases the power of collaboration and community spirit. In February 2023, we reached out to The Salvation Army with a request – to find a donated piano that could be housed in the centre. Little did we know that this request would turn into a journey of transformation and creativity.
The Salvation Army discovered the piano at an old church in Ashburton. The piano was then transported to the Salvation Army Centre in Linwood, where their talented Youth Group took charge of its restoration. Their youth group worked on designs and submitted them to us to review and choose which style we preferred so it would fit with our branding.
The Youth Group contacted Resene to sponsor the project with an array of brightly coloured paints, and across several Thursday evenings, the Youth Group dedicated their time to designing, sanding, priming, and painting the piano.
The project was a labour of love that spanned six months. We are truly grateful for all the hard work that went into this beautiful piece of art that now resides in the centre for all customers to enjoy.
We now extend an open invitation to all musos – musicians and music enthusiasts – to come have a play, share a tune, or belt out your favourite song.
